Coconut oil how do i love thee

December 14, 2009

My hair is pretty darn thick, and there is lots of it, so when it gets frizzy it really poofs right out there. Bad hair days abound. I tried any number of conditioners and treatments, all clinically proven to give your hair strength, softness and shine. They didn’t work. And I wasn’t loving the extremely long list of chemicals in many of them: a plethora of unpronouncable -ectants and -aureates…

Then I realized that the coconut oil I hadn’t been cooking was also sold as a hair conditioner (It said so right on the side of the jar, not that I believe everything i read!). And it worked like magic. I cannot recommend it enough. Though just enough is exactly how much you need or you’ll be left looking and feeling greasy, try a teaspoon of the stuff and work your way up or down from there! Apparently its best to use virgin coconut oil, and organic, of course!

On my sister’s last visit to NYC she told me she had gone “No-Poo”. -they admittedly could use some re-branding but I copied a link into the website box above if you want to give it a try. Her hair is thin & fine but she swears by it.

Since she travels a lot, she said her only real dilemma was how to package the baking soda so-as not to raise suspicion in the airports… mysterious unlabeled white powder in your carry-on is probably ill advised… I’m just saying, it’s something to consider… 😉

hmmm… maybe i’ll try the “no-poo” thing and post the before and afters on here! but you are right though they so need to market & brand this better . maybe your sister can try putting the baking soda into a washed out talcum powder container for ease of mystery white powder carrying!

Coconut oil is regularly used for hair in India. As a matter of fact, coconut oil is also good for skin. Somewhere I have read that you can use coconut oil to remove make up without actually drying your skin.

I’m glad you suggested it, my skin was so dry from the cold this evening and the coconut oil seemed to work great!
