Happy Centendiem: and our first Giveaway!

March 31, 2010

Some people will celebrate just about anything, others wait to mark momentous occasions.  When we realised that Wednesday March 31st would be the centendiem of the launch of innBrooklyn we decided it was a perfect excuse for a celebration and for our first giveaway!  OK, we know that centendiem is not a word, but it should be: 100 days old is something to remember!  And here is that first memory from the mists of time…

The morning of December 21, 2009 began with a frenzy of Skype conversations and desktop sharing between us, scrutinizing and finalizing the innBrooklyn logo, WordPress theme layout, content of side bars; choosing ‘About Us’ pictures and text.  Finally that evening Noerah changed Public to Private in the blog settings, sat back in the chair and stared at the screen ( Talia was out with her brother who was visiting her from abroad).  The excitement was nail-biting… she almost expected to hear trumpets and see confetti, but there was silence as the innBrooklyn blog was born.  100 days later our blog has, to say the least, changed our lives.  We think about it several times a day, we post to it almost every day, and follow its growth with pride (not that we check our stats obsessively though), We’ve made friends, discovered a community, participated in challenges, taken classes, gotten commentors who we love.  Best of all we have learned so much because our blog has forced us to expand our boundaries: Talia in her cooking and writing and Noerah in her photography.  Thanks for visiting and sharing it all with us!

The celebratory drinks below are a delightful mix of pear brandy (a strong, clear flavor not sticky sweet at all), the always adorable sugar cube and a healthy helping of champagne.  We hope you’ll try one and raise a glass to us!  Or to wednesdays.  Or to anything you feel inclined to celebrate.

innBrooklyn Giveaway Details

If, on the other hand, you prefer the kind of celebration where you walk away with a party favor here are the details of our first innBrooklyn giveaway.  On the sidebar on the right is an image of the innBrooklyn Giveaway.  Clicking on it will take you to our idea collecting page.  We are looking for tips on living sustainably, living well, living in the spirit of innBrooklyn.  Of all the tips submitted, one contributor will be selected at random for the grand prize.  The prize is a picnic pack – represented in the banner at the top of this post — that consists of a complete picnic set for two of the most gorgeous compostable dishware by Wasara, a set of three jars of Talia’s homemade pickled yumminess and some hand sewn linen napkins so you can dine in style!  We’ll announce the winner on May 1st, so you have a month — and multiple posts are welcome if you have more than one idea to share.  (In early May we’ll catalogue and compile the ideas and do some posts to share them with all our readers!)

That swirling in the martini glass is brilliant! (And I just was reading how difficult it is to capture drinks well on camera since they change so fast…) Also, totally love the giveaway logo, very nice design. Happy Centendiem, and many, many more!

I had to keep drinking to make space in the glass for more swirls! It was a hardship I can tell you! :). Thanks for the wishes and compliments. And for being our first innBrooklyn friend and a most awesome one!!

Congratulations! And here’s to many more…..InnBrooklyn has certainly changed my life too. From preserved lemons, camera lenses and (unbelievably) the most life changing: vinegar/water cleaning solution. I can’t believe I’ve never used it before. Thanks for all the info and keep it coming…

Any suggestion to the ratio of pear brandy to champagne? I assume 1 sugar cube per. Thanks!
